Hi there! Layer tennis is a competition in which two graphic designers (or wannabes married to designers) face off, creating images which are interesting and striking. They take turns playing off the last image created and try to one-up the image or concept from the last round. In this way each designer hopes to become increasingly awesome and garner the votes of the adoring layer tennis fans. Dan and I played the home version (which I created- ok it wasn’t hard) for six rounds; with him being the actual designer working on a computer and me being the wannabe working collage style from magazines. The resulting layer volleys are now posted for your enjoyment with commentary by yours truly. Tracey’s volley is the first one, Dan is second. And so on. Vote for your favorite competitor if you feel so inclined. If we get more voters than Dan and me we can declare a winner.

I recommend the Weaver vs Thomas match as it is my favorite this season.

Tracey serves up a slice of awesome with this volley. Yes it is a tasty challenge she hands to Dan and just like one, 2, 3 this match is on!

Dan responds by showing us his heart is set on the cute and apparently “toasty” Tracey herself. I can’t tell if I’m looking at puppy dogs or cute babies- but I like this layer.

Continuing on the cute and toasty theme, Tracey dresses herself ip in a stack of cozy sweaters and some admirers arrive to comment on the overall sweetness of the last serve. I think I’m going into a sugar coma…

This layer really touches my heart. At least I assume this alien has her heart in a similar place to where mine is. I love how patriotic she is. Or nationalistic. Or planetistic? Anyways, thanks for the change-up, Dan.

Ah yes. It turns out that consumerism makes the world go around. We aren’t called on to do something either patriotic or mundane. We are called on to shop. Hey, these layers better be essential at 99 bucks a pop.

In the final volley by Dan consumerism has been overthrown by totalitarianism. It is no longer up to us. Essential layers must be worn by all or we face the horrible gray washout that has happened to our alien friend. That’s the match. Tell us who you think won!
